Upgrade your Nokia 5800 with free apps

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic GPS navigation6 April Nokia has released a new TV commercial with its first touch-screen device Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. This video shows what a cool things you can do with your 5800 device like Internet messaging and browsing with web video support, GPS navigation, picture and video uploading to Flickr and YouTube.

I wonder how we can extend these rich capabilities of this perfect device with freeware applications? The first thing I thought was extended messaging to many IM networks with Nimbuzz, Octrotalk, Palringo, Yeigo, Bombus and other such applications. The second thing would be free and low-cost VoIP telephony with great VoIP clients like Fring or Truphone. Other interesting option would be making from your phone a wireless webcam or microphone for your laptop which is possible with help of WWIGO or Mobiola Webcam and Mobiola Headset application.

My question to readers: how else we can upgrade our 5800 touch devices with Symbian freeware?

New GPS freeware navigation - Google Maps for Symbian 9

Google Maps is now available for Symbian 9. Unfortunately it's available only for Symbian S60 version. But still this is another great free native GPS navigation application for Nokia S60 phones. It supports both external BT and integrated N95 6110 GPS receivers. You can download it with mobile browser from google.com/gmm/.

Free GPS map navigation for Nokia Symbian phone

There is only one free native Symbian option for your Nokia Symbian smartphone if you like to use free GPS maps navigation software. It is Nokia Maps, also known as Smart2go. The site where you can download this application is here. By the way it now officially has been updated for almost all of S60 3rd edition devices (including E61(i), E61i, E65, N73, N76, N93i, Nokia 6120 classic and the ones with Nokia Maps preinstalled - E90 Communicator, N95 and 6110 Navigator), not only N Series as before, but for E Series devices too. Most interesting thing that it is now available for Symbian Series 60 (S60) 2nd Edition devices Nokia N70 and N72. I hope we can install it on 6630, 6680, 6681, 6682 devices too. But this assumption should be proven.
There is more options on free GPS navigation for Symbian: amAze GPS for J2ME devices with Bluetooth GPS receiver which may run on Symbian too, Nav4All the Java-based voice-guided navigation system which supports Bluetooth GPS and integrated GPS in Nokia N95 and Nokia 6110 Navigator devices.
