Nokia Belle got new Microsoft Apps

Microsoft, the best partner of Nokia, feeds Nokia's devices with its mobile apps OneNote, Lync, PowerPoint Broadcast, and Document Connection. This apps targets to Nokia Belle Symbian new version OS. Four Microsoft apps are initially released and will be delivered via the Software Update application for the Nokia E7, Nokia 610, Nokia C7, Nokia 603, Nokia 700,  Nokia X7, Nokia 701, Nokia C6-01 right away, and later for Nokia E6, Nokia N8,  and Nokia 500.
Let's look what MS brings to us in this release: first one is a Microsoft PowerPoint Broadcast app which allows you to show presentations on PC via your smartphone.
Second one is Microsoft OneNote which allows you to write rich text notes, which can be shared and synchronized with most of laptop and PC or mobile devices. Third one is Microsoft Lync is a corporate IM service with internal server setup.
And final one is Microsoft Document Connection which is a viewer for Office files using a Microsoft ShareView or Office Live and associated Exchange account like already available solutions for Dropbox or Google Docs.
Except these apps already published there is info that Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are on the go too.

Opera Mini 5.1 for Nokia Symbian phones now in sis installer

Opera Software finally ported it's superb web browser to native Symbian sis format. The main question now is - where to download this app to your Nokia phone? You can do it the same way as with regular J2ME version of Opera Mini app, just follow this link m.opera.com and scroll down web page until you see link to Opera Mini for Symbian sisx installer. This version supports all modern Symbian S60 versions from 3rd edition to 5th and Symbian^3.
The Opera Mini 5.1 native app got some improvements to the J2ME version of Opera Mini:
- Significantly faster (2x-3x) loading time
- Support for more Nokia devices
- Faster page-load and scrolling
- Native device text input and FEP support, including narrative like Talks
- Symbian clipboard integration for copy & paste, email, web browser
In wrap-up I can say that the new, optimized native version has excellent performance and is better integrated with native applications and Symbian OS. I waited this release a long time, now I'm happy to use it in my phone.
Today Opera Software released Beta 2 version of Opera Mini for Symbian. It has improved stability and FEP input support.

Nokia Chat - new location based messenger

Nokia is trying to make own free location-aware social network. For this purpose company has released a Nokia Chat application. This is generally a chat messaging application but it also shares your status and your location.
Nokia's Chat also offer voice messaging function. Additional to this everyone in your contact list know where you're now. You can tag landmarks as hotspots.

New GPS freeware navigation - Google Maps for Symbian 9

Google Maps is now available for Symbian 9. Unfortunately it's available only for Symbian S60 version. But still this is another great free native GPS navigation application for Nokia S60 phones. It supports both external BT and integrated N95 6110 GPS receivers. You can download it with mobile browser from google.com/gmm/.

Free Symbian text and e-book readers for S60 and UIQ

The most requesting Symbian software for S60 and UIQ devices is text and e-book readers. Obviously we want there readers for free. Let's look what we can get here. There are two options here: Mobipocket and QReader.
Mobipocket is an ebook reader. So it has page-by-page formatting option. The other features are bookmarks, highlights, annotations. It supports Open-eBook and XML/HTML/CSS format. Also it shows embedded BMP and GIF images in e-book.

QReader is a text reader. It supports wide range of formats like Plain text (.txt), Palm DOC (.prc and .pdb), TCR, FB2 and UMD files. Moreover it supports screen rotation (90, 180 and 270 degrees). Also great features are autoscrolling and text formating. You can select colors of text and background. There is available wide range of e-books for QReader. There are two options - free applications and commertial ones. Also there are three main platforms where you want to read PDF documents and e-books: Nokia Symbian S60 2nd Edition, Nokia Symbian S60 3rd Edition and Sony Ericsson UIQ. There is Series 80 platform from Nokia but it has really small coverage among Symbian devices. Lets break applications in categories stated above and give some links.
